On Sunday, March 29, 2009, NorthPark Center was the showcase venue for our biggest Family Day Yet. 2500 children and their families joined us from 12pm – 3pm for music performances from the School of Rock, Winslow Bright and University of North Texas students. Additional appearances by Elmo and Bearemy, the Build a Bear Mascot, entertained the audiences in between a story time from The Dallas Public Library’s Bookmark’s store and a performance from the Dallas Theater Center.

Interactive booths from Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, FC DALLAS, Current Energy, KVIL, a face painting booth and the Vanity Stand photo booth on the DALLAS Red Carpet all provided for great entertainment throughout the day. Additionally, AMC NorthPark 15 screened an exciting lineup of family friendly films.

There was plenty of fun for the whole family!

2009 FAMILY FRIENDLY PROGRAMMING

Battle for Terra
(USA, 2007, 85 mins)
DIR Aristomenis Tsirbas

It’s an alien invasion and the aliens are…people! Based on director Aristomenis Tsirbas 2003 short film, BATTLE FOR TERRA tells the story of the last humans in the universe who invade the peaceful planet of Terra after rendering Earth uninhabitable.

Mala (Evan Rachel Wood) is a precocious girl living on the beautiful planet Terra. Meanwhile, the “Earthforce” has discovered that the use of a Terraformer will make Terra habitable for humans but poisonous for Terrians. When the Humans embark on a hostile invasion of Terra, Mala's father, Roven (Dennis Quaid), is kidnapped. Hoping to save her father, Mala captures and hides a crashed human pilot named Jim (Luke Wilson). While Mala nurses Jim back to health, the two forge a friendship and a plan that could save both the human race and the planet of Terra.

BATTLE FOR TERRA combines heart-pounding action and a gentle environmental subtext that will delight and inspire audiences of all ages.

Lock & Roll Forever
(USA, Japan, 2008, 88 mins)
In Japanese/English with English subtitles
DIR Chris Grismer

Lucas Grabeel of the High School Musical series plays Donny Greene, a music talent manager wannabe who has a knack for recognizing great musicians but is never quite the right person to manage them. His big talk and attitude lands him a job managing an all-girl Japanese band that believe him when he says he will make them famous in America.

The film features sparkling music by the real-life Japanese band ORESKABAND, and colorful animation, which adds fresh visual entertainment to the film without being overwhelming.

Lock & Roll Forever is a high-energy, feel-good comedy that has all the elements of a good family film: great music, an inspirational story and a Disney movie star.

Pearl
(USA, 2009, 100 mins)
In English, Chickasaw with English subtitles
DIR King Hollis

The film is based on the adventurous trail-blazing life of Eula "Pearl" Carter Scott, a Chickasaw American Indian and a famed aviator, who received her pilot’s license at 13 and went on to have a career as a barnstormer and a commercial pilot.

Seven of Daran: The Battle of Pareo Rock
(The Netherlands, 2008, 86 mins)
US Premiere
DIR Lourens Blok

The Seven of Daran: The Battle of Pareo Rock is the magical story of Charita, a black girl and Jimmy, a white boy, who cooperate to prevent a war and change the course of African history. When Jimmy gets lost in the town market, he finds a baby white giraffe named Seraf locked in a cage. Seraf speaks to Jimmy, telling him about the rising war for land between rival tribes. With Charita’s help, Jimmy sets Seraf free. They embark on an adventure through the jungle, with Seraf’s captors in hot pursuit. Along the way, Seraf helps them and teaches them that they can achieve any goal if they believe in themselves.

This movie is the first in a planned series of seven international family films that will be produced. Each is based on the myth of the Seven of Daran, in which seven talking animals took the fate of the world on their shoulders at the beginning of time. Their mission is to reverse great wrongs and make them right. To achieve this, the animals enlist the help of children to change the viewpoint of adults.
